Sage Accounting at a glance
How Sage Accounting stacks up on the dimensions that matter when picking MTD software.
Full MTD support for VAT and Income Tax. Sage is one of the longest-standing HMRC-recognised brands and is well understood by UK accountants and HMRC alike.
Strong, traditional reporting suite, P&L, balance sheet, trial balance, aged debtors/creditors and management reporting. Layouts feel closer to a desktop accounting product than to Xero or QuickBooks.
Widely accepted by UK lenders, including high-street banks. Sage's longevity means brokers and underwriters recognise its exports without question.
Functional and stable rather than slick. UI feels dated next to Xero and FreeAgent, not a problem for spreadsheet-trained users, but a step down on first impression.
+Pros
- ✓Stable, UK-established brand
- ✓Good accountant coverage
- ✓Decent landlord support
−Cons
- ✕UI feels dated next to Xero/FreeAgent
- ✕Not the cheapest
